WORLDWIDE OCTOBER CONCERTS TO PROMOTE
HARMONY FOR HUMANITY

Thousands of musicians to join in DANIEL PEARL Music Day
OCTOBER 8-17

Los Angeles, CA - September 9, 2004 – The Daniel Pearl Foundation is rallying musicians worldwide - amateur and professional - to promote "Harmony for Humanity" in October performances as part of Daniel Pearl Music Day. Concerts already onboard range from symphony orchestras in Boston, Chicago and Johannesburg, to a peace rally in India, to "Songs of Hope and Freedom" at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The growing concert listing is posted at www.danielpearl.org/musicday04.html.

Daniel Pearl Music Day, an annual event started in 2002, honors the birthday of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, a passionate musician, who was murdered in Pakistan in 2002. Musical groups have no fundraising obligations and register online for free at www.danielpearl.org by fax at (707-829-9483) or email [email protected]

Famed jazz innovator Herbie Hancock, summed up the spirit behind the events in a recent public service announcement, "Join me in using the universal language of music to diminish hatred, respect differences and reach out in friendship."

Music Day dedications will include tributes ranging from Elton John performing "Daniel" in Las Vegas to Camilleri's opera "Elizabeth" in Malta, to the Masters of Indian Music and the Queen of Peruvian Song in New York; "A Musical Tour of the Mediterranean Basin Against Prejudice and Terror" in London; the Arab-Jewish Youth Orchestra, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the California Traditional Music Society Folk Festival.

"Danny was a talented musician and principled journalist who respected all cultures," said father Judea Pearl, president of The Daniel Pearl Foundation. "Music Day is his legacy to raise awareness of our common humanity. All musicians, no matter their genre, are invited to dedicate performances held from October 8th - 17th. We simply ask that they let the audience know about the principles of cultural respect for which Danny stood."

In 2003, over 200 performances in 29 countries participated in Music Day. This year artists in Canada, Mexico, France, India, Korea, Italy, Slovenia, Israel, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Nepal, South Africa, Malta, Spain, Kenya and Indonesia have already registered, with hundreds more expected before October 17th.
