Daniel Pearl Music Day PSAs Feature

Washington, DC, September 10, 2004 – The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Daniel Pearl Foundation are partnering to promote Daniel Pearl Music Day - an international network of concerts scheduled from October 8-17 - through a series of public service announcements featuring prominent celebrities.
Jazz icon Herbie Hancock, rock legend Elton John, the father of modern Nubian music Hamza el Din, and classical violinist Ida Haendel jointly issue an invitation to musicians worldwide – professional and amateur – to dedicate performances in a call for “Harmony for Humanity.” Daniel Pearl Music Day registration is available online at www.danielpearl.org. There is no cost to participate.
In the 60 and 30 second PSAs the four musical stars invite the public to join them “ in using the universal language of music to diminish hatred, respect differences, and reach out in friendship. Participate in Daniel Pearl Music Day.”
Television PSAs will be available on September 17, 2004 from 11:30am- 12:00pm Eastern Standard Time.Stations can uplink at:

Centered on the October 10th birthday of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002 while reporting for the Wall Street Journal, Daniel Pearl Music Day continues his mission of bridging differences by connecting hundreds of thousands of people around the world through words and music.
During last year's second annual Daniel Pearl Music Day, 230 concerts in 29 countries were dedicated to Pearl's belief that music can transcend cultural differences. This year, the Foundation is focusing on increasing youth participation and expects an even greater outpouring of voices united for tolerance and humanity.
The 2004 Daniel Pearl Music Day Honorary Committee is composed of virtuoso musicians in many musical genres: Salman Ahmad, Theodore Bikel, Yefim Bronfman, Hamza el Din, Ida Haendel, Herbie Hancock, Elton John, Tania Libertad, Yo-Yo Ma, Zubin Mehta, Mark O'Connor, George Pehlivanian, Itzhak Perlman, A.J. Racy, Mohammad Reza Shajarian, Ravi Shankar, Barbra Streisand and John Williams.
